Towards a Christian response to alternative farming. S P Carruthers, 2002.
Farming was the foundation of a pre-industrial, agrarian society. Modern agriculture, however, is a product of the industrial revolution, and is dominated, though not necessarily permeated, by an industrial mindset. In the view of some, this industrial mindset, with its underlying ‘productionist paradigm’2, is the root of the crisis. The ‘way out’ is to develop an alternative ‘post-industrial’ agriculture.
